Member Profile – Johanna Seeger
St. John Member Spotlight – Johanna Seeger
Greetings to all my St. John family. This is the second part of Johanna and Martin Seeger’s Member Spotlight. I will give my story and hopefully you will find it humorous.
I was born in Tokyo, Japan where my father was in the Air Force. My siblings were all born in different places. All five of us are 18 months apart. My oldest brother is no longer living. We were all given names beginning with the letter J. Sometimes my mother would call the roll and add a Jack and Judy. There was not a Jack or Judy.
My mother and grandfather were humorous and shared a lot of stories. I believe having 3 children serving in WWII made life rough. So, anything funny helped them survive. We grew up knowing to trust God. My mother, Martha Nash was the youngest chief nurse in the European theater (44 Evac. Hospital). James Nash, my uncle saw plenty of action and was wounded. Aunt Ditzi or Frances Nash was a P.O.W. in the Philippines. So, you see, the picture of lots of “institutional humor” me, Martin was working at Quebecor along with Bill Wehman. Martin and Bill had worked together in Indiana years before and Bill left Japan one month before I was born. Now that was only God’s plan. The rest is history. There are many people that have made St. John our home church.
My mother and I were eating lunch for Mother’s Day. During that lunch I told my mother about Martin. I told her I met him at a European restaurant. I went on about going sailing, and the symphony with Martin. I also told her that he was German. Without hesitation she asked, “He’s not a spy is he”. I told her I had not asked him. There is more to that story… the first time we went to Germany, I had some concern! Martin and I married in Augusta, Georgia and then moved to Dickson.
In 1998 I was with my mother when she died. She told me that God had answered her prayers. She wanted to go before any of her children, and she forgave so many that had wronged her.
Faith is never losing sight of God, and I will continue to try to share that love with my caregiving and everyday life. As a believer, I hold my faith as my greatest asset and know that every day is a day of celebration. I thank God for everything: especially my St. John family. I have been blessed with so much through my interests, talents, my family, travel experiences and life. Martin and I have volumes of great stories. Keep sharing.
“To the world, you may be one person; but to one person, you may be the world.”
